In Slovenia, 75% of the forests are privately owned, while 25% are the property of municipalities or the state. Recent data reveals that there are 313,000 forest plots in Slovenia and 461,000 forest owners (source: Slovenia Forest Service).

The fragmentary distribution of forest plots and the large number of co-owners of individual plots sometimes prevents optimal forest management. Some owners do not even manage their forests.
